What is Storyboard Slice®?

Storyboard Slice® is a panel extraction tool built into StoryBoard Express. Drop any storyboard image — a scanned sheet, a screenshot from another app, or a multi-panel export — and Slice automatically detects the grid structure, identifies each individual panel, and lets you select which ones to import into your current project.

How it works

Storyboard Slice® analyses the image looking for the regular grid structure typical of storyboard layouts — rows and columns of panels separated by gutters. It detects the boundaries between panels using edge detection and whitespace analysis, then presents you with a selection grid: click the panels you want, and they're added to your storyboard immediately.

Works on clean scans, printed-and-photographed sheets, and digital exports from tools like Toon Boom, ShotDeck, or Canva storyboard templates.
